when i look at you
a poem, written to my dearest friends, who emulate the beauty of christ in the midst of trial
when i look at you,
i see effortless grace, beauty, and virtue.
when I look at you,
i see immense worth, louder than a past that hurt you.
you prove the cracks, but I know the potter.
i see his gentle hand’s work
and in each crack his voice only grows softer.
we press on and breathe,
and it feels so hard to trust our father,
his promise that he looks at you and says “i still want her.”
when i look at you,
i see effortless beauty, grace and virtue.
when you look at me,
is that what you see first, too?
