for keeps — winter ‘22
the best thrift finds and pointers from this season
i certainly have made generous additions to my already-explosive closet this fall and winter, but then again — that’s not unique to this season. should i pare back my frequent trips to the thrift stores of western mass? my wallet says yes but my heart says noOooOOoO…
here are some of my favorite finds from this past season, and the things i prioritize amidst the racks on racks.
everything i purchase takes up space in my closet, and so it needs to be something i truly love. each item (for the most part) should be three things — comfortable, good quality and in good shape. i lean towards 100% natural materials like linens, cottons, wool, and silk. these green linen pants are from flax.
how many graphic tees is too many? there is always room for one more nascar, vintage concert, or national park tee, preferably a size too big.
hand-knit sweaters for the win — like this one from susann d. keep an eye out for pieces made in the usa because they will likely stand the test of time.
another sweater? obviously. prerequisite: it has to have been owned by someone’s grandpa. i love the color-blocked collar and oversized fit.
surprise, another sweater. this one is from alfred dunner — a brand that causes me to linger on an item a bit longer when i see the tag.
the last thing i needed was another pair of jeans, but alas these levi strauss signature fits called my name. unlike most pairs i own, these were new with tags still attached. i’m most comfortable in mom-fit jeans, but i’ve been wanting to try incorporating utilitarian pieces into my wardrobe. these will do the job.
there are certain brands that i will search for — like pendleton wool, ll bean, rei, wrangler, and carhartt. some brands have a reputation to stand the test of time. these two pendleton wool button downs made my heart explode. amazing find, $10 each.
at this point in my life i try to not buy multiple similar basics (a real temptation when you find 30 amazing black eddie bauer turtlenecks over time) — but the thrill of looking for high quality one-of-a-kind pieces is too tempting for a girl like me.
